Palanga Rehabilitation Hospital began its operations in December 1991. A year ago, when Lithuania's independence was restored, the USSR KGB sanatorium ceased to function. On August 30, under the influence of the Council for the Affairs of the Disabled under the Government, the Ministry of Health issues order no. 273 "On the organization of the republican Palanga rehabilitation hospital for rehabilitation treatment". Virginijus Biskys is appointed as the chief physician. Immediately, the hospital begins to adapt to people with mobility disabilities, and a completely new rehabilitation strategy begins to be developed. In 1992, bridges were built with the Swiss Nottville Rehabilitation Center, where the hospital director began his first internship.
